On Monday, March 30th, Purvi Patel was sentenced to 20+ years incarceration in Indiana for the crimes of feticide and neglect of a dependent. While Patel consistently maintained that she experienced a miscarriage, prosecutors claimed that she attempted to terminate her own pregnancy but gave birth to a baby who she then neglected and allowed to die. NAPW worked to oppose Patel's arrest and prosecution with local advocates, by filing an amicus brief, and publishing commentaries about the injustices in this case (see below). NAPW will continue to support Patel and local advocates in any future efforts in this case.
