The goal of NAPW’s Summit is to broaden and strengthen the reproductive rights movement by building bridges between two disparate camps that should be natural allies: those who identify themselves primarily as pro-choice, and members of the growing maternity/birth with dignity movements.

The Summit’s fundamental goal is to bring together people from all across the country who are concerned about reproductive rights and maternal health in their many forms, shift the public conversation from its current focus — murderous women who kill their unborn children — and reframe it to address the importance of ensuring the health and humanity of all pregnant women.

The fact is that all women are facing increasing human rights violations and limitations on access to care. The woman who faces severe restrictions on her right to a safe and legal abortion is connected to the woman in the next town over who is prevented, by those very same laws, from making her own decisions about whether to have a vaginal or caesarian birth. NAPW believes that together — as a large, vocal, and united constituency — we can organize on the grassroots and national levels and ultimately win.

* In memory of Angela Carder, a 27-year-old pregnant woman who in the name of fetal rights was forced to have a cesarean section that resulted in her death and the death of her fetus.
