The United States is facing a maternal health care crisis as the rate of maternal mortality has been rising, and Black and Indigenous people are dying at even higher rates. This is happening in a health care system where 1 in 4 women of color report mistreatment during birth.

Join legal and reproductive health experts for a panel on the importance of healthcare facilities listening to and honor pregnant people and their families.

During this panel, you will learn about how New York's largest hospital system (Northwell Health) gave their doctors at Staten Island University Hospital the authority to force pregnant patients to have medical procedures without the patient's consent. They did this through an internal hospital policy called "Managing Maternal Refusals" which is as bad as it sounds. Learn how you can join organizing efforts to end this policy.

Panelists include:
Lynn M. Paltrow, JD, Founder and Executive Director of National Advocates for Pregnant Women
Efe Osaren, CD, CLC, Midwife Assistant, Reproductive/Birth Justice Advocates and Full Spectrum Doula
Katy McFadden, CNM, RNC-NIC, Midwife, Former NICU RN and "whistleblower" and activist in an epicenter of the infant/maternal mortality crisis
